Know someone that tends to use a lot of NSFW type language?
You’d better listen to them!
A new study found that people that use a lot of vulgarity tend also to be more honest and trustworthy.
According to “Frankly, we do give a damn: The relationship between profanity and honesty,” a study published in the Journal of Psychological and Personality Science, “Profanity was associated with less lying and deception at the individual level, and with higher integrity at the society level…”
The study determined this with a few methods. First, they analyzed the responses of 276 participants. The subjects were asked how often they curse, their favorite swears and their emotions during the moments they use those naughty words.
The study also looked at Facebook status updates from around the world. 73,000 of ’em, to be exact. That’s a lot of Facebook!
