By John Calhoun

In November of 1948, the biggest political upset in American history occurred.   All of the pollsters had predicted a win for Thomas Dewey over President Harry Truman.

Gamblers were giving odds of 15 – 1 against Truman. Reporters were writing stories about the new Dewey administration.  Dewey Defeats Truman was the famous headline of an early edition of the Chicago Tribune.

Harry Truman seemed to be the only person who believed he could win.  As it turned out, he was right and just about everyone else was wrong.  Harry Truman was re-elected president.

Almost 30 years later, Harry Truman by Chicago made its chart debut.  The song peaked at #13 in 1975.
